Amara’s Overseas Journey
-
I’ve always wanted to try living abroad. I missed my opportunity in college and never felt ready to do so. After visiting Antigua in 2021 and having PTSD from our quarantine in Brooklyn, I was over it. I needed out.
-
To keep it 100, I had a lot of poor boundaries and codependency that were holding me back.
-
Before visiting Antigua for the second time, I found an article on Amber and left it up on my iPad. While in Antigua, I was closing my countless open tabs and saw the article again. I booked a session immediately. During our consultation, I realized I could move abroad without her. However, I wanted and need the support because without it, I would be navigating this abroad life on my own. And who better to support me, a Black woman than another Black woman. I was sold pretty much immediately.
-
It was very healing and transformational. I learned so much about myself and without the chaos of the United States, I could see what was my own stuff and what was societal nonsense. Given Antigua is a small island and COVID was still present, the social aspect at the time was limited. I’m a plant-based eater and the local produce is super affordable! Cars and housing are larger costs. I found a deal for both, which made my life so much easier.
-
Yes, Antigua was what I needed in that phase of my life.
-
Moving abroad has made me realize how the United States is not for me. I never thought I would say that. It is not aligned with my personal core values and beliefs. I’m grateful for the passport and the privilege that allows me. However, I want to be in a place that cares for community and people, isn’t focused on working people to death, and values rest.
-
Do it and stop thinking the United States is the only place because it literally is not! The ancestors want this for you. Go be free and stop living in fear. People live in every corner of this planet so you will be good wherever you end up.
-
Personally, I’m hoping to find my next beautiful home. I’m trying out another island, Aruba. I’ll see where that leads me. All I know is I will be somewhere warm, with Black folks, by an ocean where I can see clearly through the water, has an international airport, and good plant-based restaurants.
Professionally, I’m building a business that I can run remotely, so catch me if you can!
